Sewage Cleanup
How does it happen?
Sewage backups typically occur from damaged/blocked plumbing, backflow from the main sewer line, or a damaged septic tank. Proper maintenance of sewage lines, or upgrading older lines can help prevent sewage backups in your home.
What to do if you have a backup
The most important thing is that direct contact with any sewage and contaminated items is avoided. Sewage contains harmful microorganisms (bacteria and viruses), and direct contact with contaminated materials can have adverse health effects.
Do not use any pluming or water until a licensed plumber has inspected the property and fixed whatever issue caused the backup.
Contact a mitigation company to clean the contaminated space properly. PPE (protective gear), demolition, and heavy cleaning is required to ensure any areas impacted by sewage are sanitized and safe. Sewage is considered CAT 3 (Category 3) - and is cleaned in accordance with the IICRC guidelines
